Department of Economics
University of Massachusetts, Amherst
I am a Ph.D. candidate in the department of economics at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. My research fields include macroeconomics and finance, international economics, and growth and inequality.
My dissertation research investigates the financialization of nonfinancial corporations in the U.S. economy between 1971 and 2011. I explore, first, what trends constitute the financialization of nonfinancial corporations; second, what factors have driven the financialization of nonfinancial firms; and third, the implications for fixed investment. I find evidence that both shareholder value norms and rising firm-level demand volatility inhibit the allocation of funds within nonfinancial corporations for fixed investment.
